Victor K. Chen, MD, MSPH

Dr. Chen joined the Digestive Health Clinic following 16 years of private practice in Reno, Nevada. In 2006, he introduced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to Nevada and has remained actively involved in the advancement of therapeutic endoscopy throughout his career. He currently serves as the American College of Gastroenterology Governor for Idaho.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Chen is an Eagle Scout and was elected to the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. He earned a double major and his medical degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also earned a Master of Science in Public Health.

Dr. Chen subsequently completed an advanced fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy at Case Western Reserve University under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Sivak, recognized as one of the pioneers of therapeutic endoscopy. Dr. Chen is a gastroenterologist with expertise in advanced endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound and a dedicated advocate for colorectal cancer screening. His Master of Science in Public Health supports his dedication to preventive digestive health, with a particular focus on early detection and screening for gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers.

Dr. Chen's interest in medicine was shaped by personal experiences with cancer. The deaths of family friends from metastatic colon and lung cancers first sparked his interest in medicine, while the loss of his grandfather to esophageal cancer influenced his decision to specialize in gastroenterology. His mother passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2023, further deepening his personal connection to gastrointestinal cancers and his commitment to their early diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Chen is board certified in gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is also a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Gastroenterological Association. He has published on endoscopic ultrasound in multiple peer-reviewed journals.

His personal interests include telemark skiing, snowboarding, calisthenics, and spending time with his wife, children, and extended family.
